Nobu opens in Madrid: Luxury, Gastronomy, and Formula 1

As of September 1st, Madrid has added a new name to its luxury hotel scene: Nobu. The hotel opens its doors at 26 Calle Alcalá, just ahead of the arrival of Formula 1 in the capital.

The chain—founded by Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro, and producer Meir Teper—has opted for a more intimate and exclusive format in Madrid, featuring around 50 rooms. The goal is to combine five-star amenities with a more personal touch. “We are here to add value,” explains Lorna Turnbull, Marketing Director for several of the brand’s hotels in Spain.

The building, formerly a bank, has been transformed with a contemporary design that incorporates subtle Japanese touches while preserving original architectural elements. Standout facilities include a suite spanning over 100 square meters with a private terrace, an indoor pool, and a gym.

However, gastronomy takes center stage. The hotel features a Lobby Lounge, a bar, the Nobu restaurant, and a rooftop area with spaces for socializing and cocktails. The menu will include some of the chain’s signature dishes, such as Alaskan black cod, alongside offerings inspired by Madrid. Chef Héctor Mirón will lead the kitchen, working under the supervision of Nobu Matsuhisa himself.

“Nobu offers five-star service, but with a more approachable, intimate feel,” summarizes Turnbull.

With the Madrid location, Nobu now operates five properties in Spain, joining its hotels in Marbella, Ibiza, Barcelona, and San Sebastián. Its opening, coinciding with the arrival of Formula 1, reinforces the hotel’s strategy of attracting high-spending international visitors.
