The Palace Hotel has reopened its doors, fully renovated after two years of restoration work to restore it to the appearance it had when it opened in 1912. Now under The Luxury Collection brand by Marriott International, it is classified as a monument. The latest technologies and traditional craftsmanship have been used to restore the 14-karat gilding, which was hidden under many layers of paint, and the 1,870 pieces of glass in the characteristic Maumejan Brothers dome, marbles, historic tapestries, and more. A multidisciplinary team of experts in architecture, interior design, and engineering, whose work, in which Grupo Las Rosas participated, has invested €90 million.

Alfonso XIII wanted Spain to have a luxury hotel on par with other European countries, which he achieved with the Palace. It was not for nothing that it hosted figures such as Mata Hari, García Lorca, Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, and Ava Gardner, among many others. During the Civil War, it served as an operating room, and during the attempted coup d’état of February 23, it was a refuge for journalists and politicians. Its historical significance has necessitated a meticulous restoration. Miguel Díaz, the architect from Estudio Ruíz Larrea responsible for the project, states that all of the hotel’s rooms, no fewer than 470, have been renovated.
